Jim Estes, a former PGA Tour Player, and childhood friend Jamie Winslow co-founded the Salute Military Golf Association in late 2006. They both saw first-hand the positive force the game of golf could play in the recovery process for our nation’s wounded veterans.
SMGA began with the purpose of creating a therapeutic outlet for post-9/11 veterans undergoing prolonged medical treatment at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and Bethesda Naval Hospital in Maryland.
The Salute Military Golf Association quickly expanded into a national charitable organization helping wounded veterans across the country in all 50 states and US territories.
We are a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of people in need. Our mission is to provide assistance to those who are less fortunate and to create a better world for all.
Through our programs and initiatives, we strive to make a positive impact on the world and to help those who need it the most.
The Salute Military Golf Association (SMGA) Georgia Chapter is a veteran-run organization dedicated to enriching the lives of post-9/11 veterans who are wounded, injured, or ill. Founded in Spring 2021 by Ramiro (R.A.) Headges and Waldo Ikiriko, both veterans themselves, the SMGA Georgia Chapter was born out of a shared experience and a desire to empower fellow wounded veterans one fairway at a time.
We are a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving the needs of our local community. From providing food and shelter to those in need to offering educational programs and support services, we are committed to making a positive impact on the lives of those around us. By supporting Salute Military Golf Association Georgia Chapter, you are supporting your community and helping to build a brighter future for all.

Service members or veterans of the US Armed Forces wounded or injured (incl. PTSD and TBI) while conducting overseas contingency operations in post-9/11/2001 are eligible to become members after successfully completing an SMGA Clinic Series or The American Golfer Program.
The SMGA's plan is straightforward: create an environment for participation, recreation, interaction, and enjoyment that nurtures a genuine appreciation for golf and cultivates enduring friendships beyond rehabilitation and the golf course. The SMGA program stands out by integrating golf into the mental and physical rehabilitation of Post 9-11 injured Veterans. Golf, unlike other sports, offers a platform where players of different abilities can engage, network, and socialize during play..
